Movie Screening

On the evening of Wednesday, the 25th of September, at the end of the conference programme, we are inviting everyone partaking at the T2M conference 2024 to join us for a cineastic grande-finale. Together, we will venture to Schaubühne Lindenfels, one of Leipzigs most beautiful movie theaters in the City’s westside, to watch the screening of “Corridor #8” (2008) by Boris Despodov, followed by a live discussion with filmmaker and cinematograph, Boris Missirkov, moderated by Lyubomir Pozharliev (IfL).

Corridor #8 by Boris Despodov / AGITPROP (2008)

Synopsis

Corridor #8 is a mosaic film combining fragments from the everyday lives of the characters who live along a non-existent Balkan road. The road passes through the countries of Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania. In the same time Corridor #8 is a huge EU infrastructural project meant to link the Black and the Adriatic Seas, already a decade in the planning.

Along the way you’ll meet a cowboy train, a railway tunnel used for growing mushrooms, an international businessman building an oil pipeline, a local politician dreaming of becoming the next American president, a pimp working for KFOR soldiers and even a song dedicated to Corridor #8, which seems to be the only real thing in a surreal world…“Corridor, Corridor, Corridor #8…”

Following the road’s thread the „non-road” film Corridor #8 captures the moods, the prejudices and the hope of the people from the three Balkan countries, who paradoxically are “far away, so close” to each other.

Boris Missirkov

Boris Missirkov, was born in Sofia in 1971. He studied at the Bulgarian National School of Ancient Languages and Cultures from 1985 to 1990, at the National Academy of Theater and Film Arts from 1991 to 1996 and at the Italian research center Fabrica from 1997 to 1998. Missirkov pursued this path together with Georgi Bogdanov (*1971), with whom as an artist duo he began co-founding the production house AGITPROP and the Bulgarian Association for Photography in 1994.

As a solo artist, Missirkov is celebrated as a cinematographer, director, visual artist and photographer who creates visual campaigns, feature-length documentaries, videos and short films. He was also the author of the first Bulgarian original film for the National Geographic Channel, Explore Bulgaria (2014-2019), co-producer of 15, the first Bulgarian omnibus film, and author of The Ladino Ladies’ Club (Bulgaria/USA, 2015), which was screened at the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival and the Warsaw Film Festival.

His duo AGITPROP uses portrait photography to play with photographic tropes of the 20th century. Whether through the lens of seriousness or levity, each immortalized subject is both a reflection and a commentary on the various social conditions that make up society. This effect is reinforced by the compositional elements with which the artists alter and complement their work.
